Welcome Samantha!

Our friends Chris and Mikki McLeod just had their second baby Samantha Avery on Saturday February 17. Congratulations guys! We visited them in the hospital on Monday and Sam is beautiful! Here is the crazy story of Samantha's birth as told by Mikki on her blog:

We had the baby tonight at 6:55pm. She is healthy and doing well ... I am waiting for the nurses to bring her to me as I type. We almost made it to the hospital. I delivered "Samantha Avery" in the car in front of the hospital. My water broke at the traffic light turn for the hospital. It has been a very interesting day. At 1:30 am I was 3 cm and came to the hospital and they sent me home ... so we drove back to Davenport, and got some sleep. During the day today, I had some time to myself... I decided to do some walking and went to the Gap and Carters and Walmart ... started having stronger contractions in Walmart... that was at about 4pm.

I got home and told my husband that he was not going to work tonight, and that I was going to go to the bathroom and put some makeup on and do my hair ... well within a half an hour I could barely stand ... Cameron was left with her Auntie Julie (who is not only in town to see her niece, but more specifically in town to help take care of her while I am in the hospital). In front of the house I was in labor ... by the time we got from Davenport to Winnie Palmer, I was giving birth. As I said before, my water broke at the light ... we pulled into Valet and Chris ran for help ... the Valet captain ran for a stretcher ... by the time the nurse (Lisa Jo) got to me, the baby's head was crowning ... she did what she could to undress me, then she coached me and was ready to catch (I was literally deliver the baby in full few of anyone facing the front window of our car because my behind was off the seat ... I delivered with both doors open in our Honda Element after pulling the rubber weather stripping off the door and biting my husband ... Samantha Avery was born, wrapped up in my husband's Philadelphia Eagles fleece pullover and the cord was cut ... about 15 female nurses and staff held sheets up around the car and held onlookers back as they moved me from the front seat to a stretcher... they sent my husband with the baby, and wheeled me through a lobby of applauding patients, staff and guests ... a security guard "high fived" me and off I went to a delivery room to finish the birthing process. My husband is now known as the "Valet Dad".

A few of the amazing staff members followed me up to the delivery room ... one of which already had a picture in hand to give me of Samantha Avery. Chris joined the room of people shortly after that and collected my phone and his and started the phone calls. After paperwork and tests and a tiny stitching up ... the staff then loaded my husband up with cleaning supplies for our poor car. As Chris cleaned the car I met with a few doctors and then was cleaned up and getting prepared for transportation to my recovery room. We stopped off to see our brand new baby girl ... 6lbs 15oz. and 19.5 inches long. We headed off to our room had something to eat and as my husband sleeps (it's now 1am Mon) ... I am waiting for Samantha Avery to be delivered to our room. She had to be in the "transition" for 6 hours of monitoring due to the fact that she was born outside of the hospital. She should be here any moment. This was the first baby delivered that didn't make it to the lobby to be born.

So we would like to announce the birth of the latest member of Team McLeod ... Samantha Avery ... 6 lbs 15 oz 19.5 inches long ... born at 18:55 in front of Winnie Palmer Hospital in our Honda Element!!!

Yesterday Piper was very good while Mommy was cleaning, so as a special treat we went out side to run around and blow some bubbles! Mommy took a bunch of pictures while we were out there. Here are some of my favorites!

2nd Anniversary

For our second anniversary we went over to AMC Theaters at Disney and saw 2 movies. We first went to Juno... great movie! Then National Treasure 2... good, but not quite as action packed and a little less puzzle solving than the first, we definitely think a third is on its way! Then we headed over to Sleuth's Mystery Dinner Theater. We had great seats at the table front and center. It was a lot of fun to watch the show and then play along to try and solve "whodunnit." We even got a sleuth's magnifying glass for our anniversary! Here's a picture of us with the cast of the show!
